Yiyang is a prefecture-level city on the Zi River in Hunan province, People's Republic of China, straddling Lake Dongting and bordering Hubei to the north.It was founded in the Qin Dynasty. During the Taiping Rebellion its name was changed to DeSheng county.
Now, Yiyang administers two districts, one county-level city, and three counties.
The site area is called Shi matou is a transport wharf of the river, the pier is paved with mahogany, located in the east side of the town of Weigong Temple, the rise of the Ming Dynasty, is the ancient city of Yiyang Qin and Han Dynasties, Yiyang ancient city of one of the birthplace.

Then after saveral hundreds years' development it becomes a media scale city in China. The new city center is located in the south of Zijiang river which take place of the old center. Now ,the north area has lower development and most of function is the residence.

In the site, there are still have 3 complete ancient lanes: Yuling slope Lane, Wei Gong Temple Lane, lantern hall Lane, surrounded by dozens of houses in the Qing Dynasty. The distribution area is about 6,000 square meters, 228 courtyards, the original residents of more than 7,000 people, but now 80% of the residents have moved away. Now the government has planned to carry out protective transformation of this area to keep the city memory and make it charming again.

The building is dated until Ming danasity with the resident function. At the beginning the building is design only for one family to live, but during the lliberration war the owner from individual become the government. Then after the China land revolution，government distribute the buiding into sevral single room to share with poor people.
After a long staying, the buiding has a renovation by the locals, they had built more rooms instead of public space, the inner of the building become more and more crozy and dense. Until now, there are still 8 families live in here.
We keep the orignal boudaries of the buiding but redifine it, it not only the wall but also the living space that people can have the public activities inside. The space between the new inner wall and outside wall become the new public and transport space for the locals. It can countinous from the ground until the roof and the bridge to the riverbank. The new building will not only the residence, but also the new city center of this area, it can have more public funcitions like hostel, library, small business and so on. The new function will provide the new opportunaty for the building also the people.
The concept of the building is come from the urban pattern, i want to continue the fabric until the buiding, the new architetcture will become the important point of the whole urban structure. I follow the horizantal and veritical connection extend into the building to arrange the inner space of the building. The new bridge will connect the new architecture, river, into the main vertival system of the city plan.
Even this building is the protected well , i still want to give a new meaning to her. I give a new arrangement of the column to make the samll space into the big open space. The first floor space will totally free for the residents and also the publics, thenn the second floor divide into several small apartment to share the public livingrooms.
