Comparing the Phase of the COVID-19 Epidemic in Lombardy and Tuscany Professor Martin Scheinin, EUI Department of Law

Based on publicly available data and with the assistance of Ilari Scheinin (PhD, bioinformatics) a Twitter thread of 30 March 2020 sought to compare the contemporaneous facts concerning the Coronavirus epidemic in two Italian regions, Lombardy and Tuscany. The cautious conclusion presented was that Tuscany was at the same phase of the epidemic as Lombardy and would not need to go through the monumental dimensions of the epidemic that had struck Lombardy.

This publication includes the Twitter thread of 30 March as well as a brief update in the form of three tweets of 7 April 2020. The update is presented first.
