Dear Dr. Tambella,
On behalf of PLOS and the PLOS ONE team, I want to thank you for all of the work, insights, and support you’ve brought to the journal as an Editor for PLOS ONE in 2019. We count ourselves lucky to be led by so many talented experts in diverse research communities and are grateful for your generous contributions of time, expertise, and effort that help us make rigorously peer-reviewed science open and available to all. We couldn’t do it without you!

As you know, last year was an exciting year for PLOS as we continue to break boundaries in service of Open Research. All PLOS journals in 2019 implemented published peer review history to enable authors and reviewers expanded options for credit and
transparency of the research process. We’re also making strides to offer new incentives, like ORCID, that encourage reviewers to become a part of the assessment process. In December, PLOS ONE also joined the Review Commons pilot which aims to streamline peer review and reduce reviewer burden by making referee reports transferable to any of the 17 partnered journals.
Building on the progress we made in 2018, PLOS ONE launched 25 Calls for Papers across our broad scope, enabling us to expand our reach and build communities in a wide array of disciplines. As our efforts increase, so does the size of our Editorial Board. To help bring editors together and foster collaboration across the many disciplines and countries in which you serve, we launched Discourse as a communication platform which has sparked a number of thoughtful discussions such as these recommendations on how to engage more reviewers. And you continue to inspire us with new ideas!
The momentum for 2020 has already begun with our recent launch of Registered Reports as an additional guarantee of transparency in the entire research process, and
embodiment of PLOS ONE’s mission to publish all valid research. THANK YOU
None of this would have been possible without your dedication and support of PLOS ONE and Open Research. On behalf of the entire PLOS ONE team, I just want to say thank you for all of your hard work this past year.
If you’re interested in receiving a letter summarizing your position and contributions to the journal, please get in touch with us. We’re happy to offer that to you. In the meantime, you’ll also find your name listed on our Editorial Board page.
Thank you again for your work for PLOS ONE, and we welcome any feedback you have for us.
Many thanks,
Joerg Heber
