“Application of S.M.E.D. methodology to superconductors drawing processes”
Abstract
This thesis has been developed in collaboration with Outokumpu Copper Superconductors Italy, a company that works in superconductors’ field. Our thesis target was to apply S.M.E.D. method to the plants situated in Fornaci di Barga. The purpose was to increase plants productivity during 2005-2006 period. The first step was a workers training, as S.M.E.D. methodology foresees, continued with a methods and work times analisys. A whole department (C.I.M.), made up of several machines, was analized in order to find out possible improvements in set up and manufacturing operations. This methodology was even applied to another machine called “Bull Block Oto”, situated in a different department. Once realized every proposed changes, benefits have been quantified.
