Sommario
Abstract
This thesis is the result of a study made at the SKF factory in Massa, in order to begin an analysis on the SKF Y bearings with eccentric locking collar. This product shows some problems related to the lack of knowledge about the mechanical behaviour under load, as a matter of fact the coupling with clearance between the shaft and the bore makes the standard rating life theory not reliable in this configuration. The increase of the rotational speed of machines and more heavy loading conditions appeared in the last ten years, caused an increment of complaints about early failures of this product. These problems lead SKF to plan a research and development project with the purpose of study the mechanical strength of this kind of bearings and understand which parameters have the most important effect on the rating life.
The following study is focused on understanding the influence on the mechanical strength of the bearing YET 206, of these parameters: the clearance between the shaft and the bore and the different heat treatment of the inner ring, . The work done during this thesis is composed by an experimental and a theoretical part. The first step was the analysis and optimization of a testing machine, used to make a comparison test between bearings with two different heat treatment of the inner ring. At the same time, some FEM simulations have been made in order to understand the mechanical behaviour of these bearings with different clearance between the shaft and the bore.
