EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND (ERDF)

By the end of 2018, the ERDF provided over 1.1 million households with better access to broadband, and supported more than 800 researchers. It also resulted in 2,797 enterprises introducing new products.

EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND (ESF)

ESF-YEI (Youth Employment Initiative) projects have involved almost 5 million participants, including 600,000 young people who completed a YEI measure (50% of them found a job). Moreover, about 1 million of participants (unemployed and inactive), six months after leaving a measure, were in employment, including self-employment.

EUROPEAN AGRICULTURAL FUND FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT (EAFRD)

By the end of 2018, EAFRD supported almost 75,000 agri- environment-climate contracts and almost 1.2 million hectares under organic farming. 5.4 million people benefitted of improved services and infrastructure and 477 holdings participated in European Innovation Partnership operations.

EUROPEAN MARITIME AND FISHERIES FUND (EMFF)

The implementation of the EMFF OP did not make substantial progress in 2019 compared to 2018. By end September, commitments stood at 56% and payments to beneficiaries at 25%. The most advanced sectors are sustainable fisheries, control and data collection, and marketing and processing.

EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND (ERDF) Target Argo – Print Strong Like Metal

The company Roboze S.P.A., based in Puglia, manufactures 3D printers which can be used to create a range of industrial, large-scale components. The said investment is helping the company to develop and upgrade its research laboratories with the ambition of becoming leader in the 3D printing market. The project is funded under the National programme “Research and Innovation” ERDF 2014-20.

Total investment is €3 million, including ERDF contribution of

€2.4 million.

EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND (ESF)

Free Kindergarten initiative The “nidi gratis” (“free kindergarten”) initiative from the Lombardia region is an example of measure for social inclusion and for reducing gender gaps in employment. The initiative, with a total budget of about €70 million, provided so far 30,000 low- income families free access to kindergartens for their 0-3 year old babies.

DEVELOPMENT (EAFRD) Revitalizing villages

In Umbria Region, the Local Action Group Media Valle del Tevere led a project to revitalize typical small villages by reversing decline and depopulation, promoting rural tourism and preserving the cultural identity of the population. With a budget of €4.4 million (EU contribution:

€1.7 million) the project involves 13 municipalities, 16 restored villages and 27,671 inhabitants.

EUROPEAN MARITIME AND FISHERIES FUND (EMFF) Fostering relationship between fishermen and scientists in local community

‘Tarta-Tur’- a combination of the Italian word for turtle (tartaruga) and dolphin in Latin (Tursiops) - is a conservation project involving four Fisheries Local Action Groups on the Northern Adriatic, to foster a trustful relationship between fishermen and scientists.

The project explores the socio- economic impacts that the implementation of a Site of Community Importance can have on fishing and aquaculture businesses. Total investment:

€110 million, including €55,000 from the EMFF.
