Ade (gr. ῞Αδης) Tra gli antichi Greci, nome del dio regnante sulle regioni dell’oltretomba.
L’etimologia del nome è controversa: già in antico lo si derivava da un ἀ- privativo e dalla radice ἰδ- «vedere»:
A. sarebbe dunque l’«oscuro». Per estensione si chiama A. il regno dei morti nella concezione pagana.
