ABSTRACT
This thesis was born by the collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Cervi Museum in Gattatico.
The aim of this work is to represent what I did throughout the months at the Cervi Museum.
To be more precise: the translation work of the museum path in English, Spanish and French, but also the translation of the Quadrisfera text in English. For this purpose, I will only analyse the Spanish translation. Just considering the title, I have wanted to play on the power of translation: Traducir es libertad represents the value of the translation but also the freedom fought by the Cervi brothers during the WWII.
Firstly, I’ve only wanted to focus on the idea of museum: how we can reach the modern concept of museum. Furthermore, I’ve wanted to represent the relationship between history and memory.
Secondly, I’ve added something about the history of the Cervi Museum: the family, the Resistance and the current museum.
Tracing some essential points in the translation history and about the word “translation” and presenting different methods for translating, I’ve shown the Spanish and Italian texts by explaining the crucial points in rendition.
To sum up, this work focuses on the power of translation. The act of translation is something used every day by everyone (without knowing that). Thanks to translation, people could connect each other.
