Per la versione inglese si rivolse a Giorgio Enrico Noehden, un professore di origine tedesca funzionario al British Museum di Londra. L'autore e il traduttore siscambiarono una fitta corrispondenza che documenta l'attenzione scrupolosa con cui Goethe curò l'edizione, che apparve a Londra nel 1821, con iltitolo Observations 011.
