In Italia, ogni anno vengono venduti circa 120 milioni di spazzolini da denti. Questi spazzolini, che hanno una durata dai due ai tre mesi, finiscono il loro ciclo di vita nei rifiuti, e probabilmente, non saranno mai riciclati.

Cambiare solo le testine rappresenta una piccola azione ma comporta una buona sensibilità ecologica che contribuisce a ridurre l’impatto sull’ambiente. Acquistando le testine di ricambio si ottiene meno consumo di plastica.

In Italy, about 120 million toothbrushes are sold every year. These toothbrushes, which last from two to three months, end their life cycle in the garbage, and will probably never be recycled.

Changing only the heads is a small action but entails a good ecological awareness that helps to reduce the impact on the environment. Buying replacement heads results in less plastic consumption.

The toothbrush, the most common and important device in the prevention of plaque-related diseases, is subject to constant contamination, by saprophyte and pathogenic organisms found in the oral cavity, which gives it an infective charge for the next use.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual contamination of Streptococcus mutans on a conventional toothbrush compared to a model with a silver-plated head, Silver Care^® after daily use.

The data obtained, as shown by the graph, demonstrates the antibacterial activity of the silver ions deposited on the surface of the toothbrush head that reduce up to 99% the bacterial charge which instead remains on conventional toothbrushes.

Lo spazzolino da denti è il più diffuso e importante mezzo di prevenzione delle patologie causate dalla placca batterica ma, venendo in contatto con i microrganismi saprofiti e patogeni, presenti nel cavo orale, subisce una consistente contaminazione, che rappresenta una carica infettante per le successive utilizzazioni.

Gli autori del test si sono proposti di esaminare la contaminazione microbica residua di Streptococcus mutans dopo l’utilizzo quotidiano, confrontando uno spazzolino tradizionale con uno spazzolino con testina argentata Silver Care^® mediante uno studio clinico sperimentale.

I dati ottenuti, come riportato nel grafico, evidenziano la capacità dell’attività antibatterica degli ioni d’argento depositati sulla superficie della testina che riducono fino al 99% la carica batterica, che invece rimane nei normali spazzolini.

È strano pensare che sia il carbone vegetale attivo, naturalmente nero, ad aiutarci nell’igiene orale quotidiana per mantenere il bianco dei denti.
