Jernej Forbici nasce a Maribor (Slovenia) nel 1980. Ha studiato al College for Visual Arts di Lubiana. Si è Laureato con lode in Pittura (Cattedra del Professor Carlo Di Raco) all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, cui è seguita la Laurea Specialistica in arti visive e discipline dello spettacolo. Dal 1999 il suo lavoro è presente in numerose mostre personali e collettive in diversi stati europei, negli Stati Uniti, Canada, Argentina e Cina. I suoi lavori fanno parte di numerose collezioni pubbliche e private. Del 2002 è la sua prima personale Genesis. È stato invitato a partecipare alle Biennali: Hicetnunc, Pordenone (2003), IBCA Biennale internazionale d’arte a Praga, Padiglione tedesco (2005), Accade, 51° Biennale di Venezia (2007), 53° Biennale di Venezia, Padiglione Italia - Accademie (2011). Nel 2009 la stessa Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia gli ha dedicato una retrospettiva ai Magazzini del Sale, curata da Carlo Di Raco. Nel 2011, dopo aver pubblicato la sua prima monografia In my place e presentato cinque retrospettive in Italia e Slovenia, è stato invitato a partecipare alla mostra Il fuoco della natura a Trieste e, nello stesso anno, debutta a PUNTO SULL’ARTE nella mostra NaturAzioni. Nel 2012 vince una borsa di studio dal Ministero della Cultura Sloveno e viene invitato in residenza a Londra, dove si dedica allo studio dei maestri inglesi. Nel 2013 ha presentato vari progetti in Italia e all’estero, in particolare Stop of Burn with us alla Nuvole Arte Contemporanea di Montesarchio, Last Flowers alla Galleria Bianca Maria Rizzi di Milano, e Letzte Pflange alla Kro Art Gallery di Vienna. Sleep now in the fire al Prostor Epeka di Maribor (2014), Blurry future presso la European Court of Auditors a Lussemburgo (2014), Everywhen alla Galleria Romberg di Latina (2015), Nothing is yelling at you all’Officina delle Zattere di Venezia (2015), Landskip alla GALLERIA PUNTO SULL’ARTE a Varese (2016) e Phytoremediation alla Galleria Nuovo Spazio Arte di Contemporanea di Piacenza (2016) sono solo alcune delle mostre personali in cui Jernej Forbici ha presentato lo sviluppo del suo lavoro pittorico e della sua ricerca artistica personale. Nel 2017 ha realizzato, tra gli altri, il progetto Auri sacra fames a cura di Italo Bergantini e Gianluca Marziani ed esposto alla Galleria Romberg di Latina. Nel 2018 la Galleria PUNTO SULL’ARTE ha presentato il suo lavoro più recente nella mostra personale Welcome to the final show e nel 2019 le sue opere sono state esposte, per la prima volta, a New York nell’importante mostra personale Long Gone presso la Hugo Galerie (NYC - USA).
Negli ultimi anni è stato invitato a partecipare a numerose mostre collettive in Italia e all'estero. Le sue opere fanno parte di importanti collezioni e istituzioni in tutto il mondo. Vive e lavora tra Kidričevo, Ptuj (SI) e Vicenza (IT).
He studied at the College for Visual Arts of Ljubljana. He graduated with honours in Painting (chair Prof. Carlo Di Raco) at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, then specialising in Visual and Performing Arts. Since 1999 his works were chosen for many solo and group exhibitions in Europe, USA, Canada, Argentina and China. His works also belong to various public and private collections. The exhibition Genesis, in 2002, was his first solo show. He was invited to Biennials: Hicetnunc, Pordenone (2003), IBCA International Art Biennial in Prague, German Pavilion (2005), Accade, 51° Biennial of Venice (2007), 53° Biennial of Venice, Italy Pavilion - Academies (2011). In 2009 the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice organized a retrospective of his works at the Magazzini del Sale, curated by Carlo Di Raco. In 2011, after having published his first monography “In my place” and presented five retrospectives in Italy and Slovenia, he was invited to take part in the exhibition Il fuoco della natura in Trieste and, in the same year, he made his debut at PUNTO SULL’ARTE with the exhibition NaturAzioni. In 2012 he won a scholarship from the Slovenian Ministry of Culture and was invited in London, where he studied the English masters. In 2013 he presented various projects in Italy and abroad, most notably Stop of Burn with us at Nuvole Arte Contemporanea in Montesarchio, Last Flowers at Bianca Maria Rizzi Gallery in Milan, e Letzte Pflange at the Kro Art Gallery in Vienna. Sleep now in the fire at Prostor Epeka in Maribor, Blurry future at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg (both in 2014), Everywhen at Romberg Gallery in Latina and Nothing is yelling at you at Officina delle Zattere in Venice (both in 2015), Landskip at PUNTO SULL’ARTE Gallery, and Phytoremediation at Nuovo Spazio Arte Contemporanea in Piacenza (both in 2016) are only a few of the most recent solo exhibitions where Jernej Forbici presented the development of his pictorial work and of his personal artistic research. In 2017 he realized among others, the project Auri sacra fames curated by Italo Bergantini and Gianluca Marziani at Romberg Gallery in Latina. In 2018 Galleria PUNTO SULL’ARTE presented his recent works in the solo exhibition Welcome to the final show and in 2019 his works were exhibited, for the first time, in New York for an important solo show, Long Gone, at the art gallery Hugo Galerie (NYC). Furthermore in recent years he has been invited to participate in numerous collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad. His works are present in many important collections and institutions all over the world. He lives and works among Kidričevo, Ptuj (SI) and Vicenza (IT).
