SOMMARIO

In questo lavoro sono proposte differenti tecniche innovative per l’analisi di antenne ad aperture sia in configurazione a singolo elemento radiante che ad array. Le metodologie sono basate sulla ibridizzazione di differenti tecniche numeriche ognuna delle quali dedicata all’analisi di una differente regione dell’antenna. Il metodo del mode matching è utilizzato per la caratterizzazione dello scattering della parte interna in guida d’onda dell’antenna. Nel caso di tratti in guida d’onda che presentino una sezione non convenzionale, viene sfruttato un metodo agli elementi finiti bi-dimensionale per la valutazione numerica dell’espansione modale. L’analisi dello scattering in spazio libero per l’apertura radiante è risolto mediante l’applicazione del metodo dei momenti (method of moments) per la soluzione delle equazioni al contorno di tipo integro - differenziale. Per ridurre contemporaneamente sia i tempi di simulazione che il numero di incognite necessarie all’analisi del problema in spazio libero, viene proposta una metodologia innovativa che coniuga l’efficienza del characteristic basis functions method con la tecnica fast matrix generation, che permette l’analisi di array di grandi dimensioni. Gli approcci innovativi illustrati in questo lavoro sono in grado di fornire uno strumento di simulazione elettromagnetica che risulti accurato, efficiente e flessibile allo stesso tempo rivelandosi uno strumento indispensabile per il disegno e la realizzazione di antenne ad apertura.

ABSTRACT

In this work novels hybrid numerical techniques are proposed for the efficient analysis of complex radiating devices; attention is focused both in the single element and arrays of aperture antennas. The presented approaches are based on the joint application of different numerical techniques tailored to the different regions of the radiating structures. The mode matching technique is adopted for the scattering characterization of the waveguide problem in conjunction with a two dimensional finite element method for the modal analysis of unconventional shaped waveguide cross-sections. The outer free space problem is solved by employing the method of moments for the solution of the boundary integral-differential equations. To reduce both the solve-time as well as the number of unknowns involved in the method of moment solution a characteristic basis functions approach in conjunction with a fast matrix generation technique is presented for the analysis of large arrays. The

proposed novel approaches furnish an accurate, efficient and flexible simulation tools for the design of aperture antennas.
