Abstract

Il beamforming è un aspetto molto importante per qualsiasi sistema acustico che utilizza un array di sensori, in quanto consente di stimare al meglio il segnale proveniente da una particolare direzione anche in presenza di rumore e segnali interferenti.

In questa tesi tratteremo, prima, il bemforming convenzionale (delay and sum) focalizzando l’attenzione sul problema della discretizzazione dei ritardi e poi ci concentreremo su di un particolare metodo adattivo (il Generalized Sidelobe Canceller) .

Valuteremo le prestazioni dell’algoritmo e la complessità dell’implementazione hardware corrispondente utilizzando dei programmi sviluppati appositamente in ambiente MatLab v.7.0.

Beamforming is a very important aspect for any acoustic system relying on an array of sensors in order to estimate signal coming from a particular direction within noise and interference signals.

In this thesis at first the focus is placed on conventional beamforming (delay and sum) especially as concern time domain beamforming implementation. Then, adaptive beamforming is addressed with special concern to the interference rejection by means of Generalized Sidelobe Canceller.

We evaluate the performances of the algorithm and the complexity of the corresponding hardware implementation using MatLab v.7.0 proper programs developed for this occasion.
