Introduzione

Introduction
This thesis deals with such an important and delicate topic: the acoustic improvement of didactic classrooms for music. In detail, the purpose is to analyze the acoustic behavior of a particular category of instruments, the bowed string instruments, to provide a reference method on how to proceed in designing room improvements, in order to make them suitable for the musical practice.
This idea arises from the need to combine the requirements in terms of acoustic comfort with the characteristics of the rooms of today's music schools, often found in buildings for initial use different from them and therefore not acoustically treated.
In particular, it was meant to refer to small sized parallelepiped halls: these are the most common ones within schools and they are therefore mostly used for musical exercise. However, due to their small size, these rooms often have problems in terms of response, especially at low frequencies.
After identifying the essential acoustic requirements and guide parameters, the properties of the room were investigated at present conditions. A modal analysis was carried out, by compiling tables and graphs on the spacing and distribution of local resonance modes, and by analyzing the requirements identified by architectural acoustics, using softwares that use the ray-tracing method.
Thus combining the characteristics of the musical instruments in terms of output frequencies and directivity with the possible interventions on sound absorption, a particular solution was designed to ensure the acoustic improvement of the room, especially in terms of reverberation time.
