Aim of the Research is to substantiate the model of the Kaunas University of Medicine internal quality assessment.

Objectives

1. To ground the Kaunas University of Medicine internal study quality assessment model;

2. To determine the internal study quality assessment criteria;

3. To performe a pilot investigation of Kaunas University of Medicine internal study quality assessment.

Methods of the Research

The object of the research is Kaunas University of Medicine study quality The methods: scientific literary analysis, case analysis (documental analysis and questionnaire), analysis of statistical data, done the basis of the package of programs „SPSS 8.0“.

Results

The activities of Kaunas University of Medicine in ensuring the quality of study is oriented at development of the competence of future professionals: The student’s development and experience are inseparable from the quality of the content of the studied courses, from the teaching process, from the educational competence level of the instructors. These four directions of action form the studying enabling environment, in which competences material and psychological conditions confluence. The significance of these conditions is in great part predestined by the university culture as an important educational factor. During the investigation of the internal study at the environmental level it has been revealed that student do not know how to plan their time for self depending learning, as they study nights. A hypothesis that general assessment of a discipline depends on the usefulness of the delivered lectures (p<0.05) was confirmed. It was determined a statistically significant relation between usefulness of practical sessions, student’s assessment in the subject and the general assessment of the discipline, i.e. a hypothesis has been established that general assessment of the subject depends on the condition whether it is taught at the right time (p<0.05). The corroborated hypothesis that relations between the instructors and the students depend on infringement of the ethic has been confirmed (p<0.05). A hypothesis that relations between the teachers and the students depend on the mean value of the attainment was rejected (p>0.05). A hypothesis that general assessment of the duration of the taught subject depends on the intensity of the work was rejected too (p>0.05).

Conclusions

1. An internal study quality assessment model is proposed adapting the following standards:1) mission and goals; 2) the content of the curriculum; 3) student assessment; 4) student selection and support; 5) academic staff/teachers; 6) study resources; 7) evaluation of the curriculum; 8) management and administration; 9) permanent development.

2. Assessment criteria have been determined for every internal study quality assurance characteristic permitting disclose the specificity of the internal study quality of Kaunas University of Medicine on the institutional and curricular levels.

3. During the investigation of the study quality at Kaunas University of Medicine in accordance with the based in this work model, some shortcomings in organization of discrete disciplines, in the adequacy of the lay out in the course of a day, a semester, in arranging the study programs and timetables.
