Sommario

In questo lavoro di tesi si è valutata la possibilità di utilizzare la tecnologia denominata Augmented Reality (AR) quale strumento per l’addestramento del personale alla conduzione di robot industriali. Per la parte sperimentale ci si è avvalsi del laboratorio per lo studio e lo sviluppo di applicazioni di Augmented Reality presente presso il DIMNP. La fase preliminare del presente lavoro è stata caratterizzata da un attento studio delle procedure ritenute fondamentali per l’utilizzo di un robot industriale. E’ stata condotta una analisi dello stato dell’arte della tecnologia disponibile nel campo della AR, e sono stati studiati i principi alla base del processo comunicativo. E’ stato realizzato un dispositivo AR indossabile, con lo scopo di fornire ad un utilizzatore l’addestramento necessario alla conduzione di un robot industriale attraverso sequenze di istruzioni grafiche appositamente elaborate. Utilizzando uno dei robot disponibili presso l’officina del DIMNP, è stata effettuata una campagna di prove indirizzata a validare il sistema realizzato. I risultati raccolti hanno dimostrato il raggiungimento degli obiettivi prefissi, e sono stati evidenziati i possibili futuri sviluppi del sistema realizzato.

Abstract

In this thesis the possibility of using Augmented Reality (AR) technology to train personnel to use an industrial robot has been investigated. The research activity has been carried out at DIMNP, in the laboratory for the development of Augmented Reality technology. The preliminary phase of this work was characterised by a careful study of the procedures thought to be fundamental in the use of industrial robots. An analysis of the state of the art of the technology already available in the AR field was carried out and the basic principles of communication were studied. AR equipment was created to be worn by a technician who would then receive the information on how to use the industrial robot through a series of specific graphic instructions. In order to check the perfect running of the system, an industrial robot available in the laboratory of DIMNP was used for some tests. The results of these trials demonstrated the validity of the system and its possible future developments.
