Call for Expression of Interest FAO Internship Opportunity

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS

Duty station: 13 countries listed in the table Deadline for Applications: 26th July 2017

Duration: from as soon as possible to 31 December 2017 (not less than 3 months)

The Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aiming to attract talented young women and men who are strongly motivated to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas and latest research experience in FAO’s domains. The programme provides selected students, enrolled in an under-graduate or post-graduate degree programme or recent graduates with the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work experience in a field related to the work of FAO and to gain a better understanding of FAO’s mandates and programmes. At the same time, the Internship Programme provides FAO with the assistance of qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in connection to FAO Strategic Objectives and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads international efforts to defeat hunger and to support development in member countries in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and forestry. FAO’s mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Interns will be assigned to different fields of work according to their profile and to the needs of the Organization (see the Area of Assignment in the Country table). Interns will be involved in the work of the Unit that has selected them and will carry out assignments relevant to their studies or interests.

Interns will perform the functions specified in his/her Terms of Reference (TOR), prepared by the Division/Office concerned before the beginning of the assignment and agreed by the intern.

Job Requirements:

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

Nationality: candidates must be nationals of FAO Member Nations.

Education: candidates should be students enrolled in an under-graduate or post-graduate degree programme in a bona fide (i.e. listed in the IAU/UNESCO data base) educational institution at the time of application, or recent graduates. Applicants pursuing their studies in a country where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages must have completed at least 3 years of full-time studies towards the completion of a degree.

Languages: candidates must have a working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian). Knowledge of a second FAO official language will be considered as an asset.

Age: candidates should be aged between 21 and 30.

Skills: candidates should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment, have good communication skills and be knowledgeable in the use of basic computer programmes.

Residence/Visa status: candidates must have appropriate residence or immigration status in the country of assignment at the time of the application.

Family relation: candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother, father) employed by FAO under any type of contract are not eligible for the Internship Programme.

Candidates must specialize in a field relevant to the mission and work of FAO.

All candidates should possess computer skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Additional Details

Candidates from the Global South and Indigenous groups are strongly encouraged to apply to this Call for Expression of Interest.

Selected interns will receive a monthly allowance not exceeding US Dollars 700.00 and will be covered by a service incurred medical insurance. Any other cost related to travel, visa, accommodation, vaccine and living expenses will not be covered.
