RIASSUNTO

Parole Chiave: ROS, stato ossidativo, pastore tedesco, utilità e difesa.

Nell’attività fisica, sia essa svolta in aerobiosi o in anaerobiosi, si verifica un aumento dello stress ossidativo, conseguente ad una sovrapproduzione di specie reattive dell’ossigeno e/o ad una alterata capacità antiossidante.

L’obiettivo di questo studio è stato quello di valutare lo stress ossidativo in un campione di dodici pastori tedeschi durante gli allenamenti per le prove di utilità e difesa. Sono stati utilizzati due test fotometrici, il d-ROMs (Reactive Oxygen Metabolites-derivatives) e il BAP (Biological Antioxidant Potential) (Diacron, Grosseto, It) che hanno permesso di evidenziare la validità del monitoraggio dello stato ossidativo, al fine di garantire uno stato di benessere, migliorare la qualità degli allenamenti e dunque le performance atletiche dei cani impegnati in attività sportive.

Oxidative stress is a condition resulting from an overproduction of reactive oxygen species and / or impaired antioxidant capacity. It happens during exercise, whether carried out aerobically or anaerobically.

The purpose of this study was to assess oxidative stress in 12 German shepherds

during practice for utility and defence competitions. Two photometric tests, the d-

ROMs (Reactive Oxygen metabolites-derivatives) and BAP (Biological Antioxidant

Potential) (Diacron, Grosseto, IT) were used. They were valid for monitoring

oxidative status in dogs, in order to guarantee dogs welfare, to optimise the quality of

training and to improve their performance.
