La terapia chirurgica parodontale ha dimostrato ormai di essere una procedura prevedibile, con ottimi risultati sia estetici che quantitativi. Le moderne tecniche chirurgiche, come le tecniche bilaminari, con l’associazione dell’innesto di connettivo autologo prelevato dal palato, sono al momento il gold standard per il trattamento delle recessioni gengivali multiple. Un materiale innovativo da poco sul mercato, come Mucograft®, sta dimostrando di essere una possibile alternativa al connettivo palatale, in quanto ha permesso di ottenere risultati simili all’innesto autologo, con il vantaggio di una tecnica chirurgica meno invasiva e stressante, in quanto prevede un solo sito chirurgico. In alcune categorie di pazienti inoltre, potrebbe diventare il materiale elettivo: pazienti che fanno terapia anticoagulante, o che hanno turbe coagulative per esempio, beneficeranno della possibilità di accedere a questo tipo di terapia, riducendo il rischio di possibili emorragie, causate dal secondo sito chirurgico, o dalla lesione dell’arteria palatina.

Lo studio in questione, a causa del limitato campione, non riesce a chiarire sotto ogni aspetto, se Mucograft® possa essere considerato equivalente o non inferiore, ma permette di affermare che i valori di recessione residui dopo la terapia non presentino
