Questo studio dimostra come la ricostruzione tridimensionale di un distretto insidioso come la pelvi possa essere uno strumento utile, sia in generale per ottimizzare una tecnica chirurgica in modo da ridurne i rischi, sia in particolare per pianificare nella singola paziente un intervento che sia personalizzato e quindi più efficace.

È evidente come un accurato planning chirurgico che si serva della creazione di un modello 3D paziente-specifico possa essere la chiave di volta per rendere più sicura, e quindi più diffusa, una tecnica chirurgica efficace e dai risultati duraturi per il trattamento dei difetti avanzati del pavimento pelvico, quale è la sacrocolpopessi.

Il campo ovviamente è aperto non solo ad ulteriori studi che confermino le nostre osservazioni, ma anche alla programmazione di altre procedure chirurgiche in ambito uro- ginecologico.

Nell’immediato futuro si prevede una rapida applicazione delle ricostruzioni tridimensionali direttamente dentro la sala operatoria, integrate in un sistema di realtà aumentata che consenta una navigazione intraoperatoria all’interno dell’anatomia del paziente. L’ingegneria medica ci dimostra che abbiamo la tecnologia per fare tutto questo, si tratta solamente di mettere insieme le competenze ed unire gli sforzi con lo scopo ultimo di tutelare la salute e la sicurezza delle nostre pazienti.
