The
frrst
and fundamental task of thefamily
is to be of serviceto life,
which prolongsin history the
original blessing ofthe
Cre-ator, and sotransmits
the divine imagefrom

This responsibility flowsnaturally
from its being a communityof life
and love founded on marriage, andfrom its
mission to preserve, reveal and communicate love. What is hereat
stake isthe
loveof
God himself, of whom parents are made col-laborators and almostinterpreters in
the transmission oflife
andits
education according to the Father's plan.In
a family, love con-tinuesthroughout time to
pass onlife: it
does so freely, andwill-ingly

each memberis
