1. Abstract

Recent social and economic changes have inevitably impacted the construction sec-tor, leading to a housing crisis. It is clear that the major challenge for the immediate fu-ture is conversion of the existing housing stock. Many existing houses haven’t good acoustics performances because there were not specific limiting values when they were built.

In keeping with the theme of requalification of existing building, the article shows the results of a research aimed to define the acoustic performance evolution of the Ital-ian social houses.

The research has employed statistical analysis of the most used technologies em-ployed to built Italian low cost houses from post war to nowadays. In addition it was both measured and estimated acoustic performances of several components used to built houses. Research results show an improvement in acoustic performance over the time.
