Il paesaggio di Giacomelli è insieme reale e inventato, così come il suo sguardo è visionario e visivo al contempo. È il pretesto per rappresentare una situazione altra. Le sue sono "terre scritte", dove l'orizzonte è quasi del tutto eliminato: un incastro di tempo e non-tempo. Nei suoi paesaggi il rapporto tra campagna e memoria, tra Giacomelli e una terra-madre negata e accettata si fa più drammatico, traducendosi in un'asciutta e grande rappresentazione. Della terra egli coglie i segni, la materia, i solchi, tuttavia trovando in essi corrispondenze con i corpi dell'uomo, perché la terra, nella sua poetica, è la carne stessa dell'uomo. Nel complesso la sua opera è caratterizzata dalla ricchezza di rimandi interni e di sviluppi che la rendono

inconfondibile, nelle parti come nell'insieme. Così la serie del paesaggio è profondamente legata a un altro importante capitolo della sua opera: "Motivo suggerito dal taglio dell'albero". Entrambe queste ricerche sono le più dimostrative del suo modo di procedere e di costruire. In questa serie di scatti, in particolare, partendo dai piccoli dettagli della natura, che veicolano in sé un respiro umano, come un alchimista dello sguardo Giacomelli trasforma l'immagine in un "doppio visivo".
