Il catalogo aspira a ricomporre virtualmente e studiare l'intero corpus dei disegni e delle stampe prodotto tra XIV e XVIII secolo per il cantiere del Duomo di Milano, così da renderlo accessibile a tutti gli studiosi. Tale ricomposizione crediamo possa contribuire allo studio delle tecniche esecutive, dei modi di rappresentazione e dei rapporti con la prassi progettuale del disegno architettonico in Lombardia. La maggior parte dei modelli e dei disegni architettonici elaborati per la costruzione del Duomo di Milano in Età Moderna è oggi andata perduta, oppure è dispersa in quasi trenta collezioni delle biblioteche e dei musei di tutto il mondo. Se ne è conservata solo una parte, circa quattrocento tra stampe e disegni e quattro modelli lignei.

The catalogue is intended to collect and study “virtually” the entire graphic production relative to the Cathedral of Milan in the modern period, so as to make these materials accessible to scholars everywhere. As well as this, it is hoped that the creation of a coherent corpus can help the study of designtechniques, methods of representation and relations with the practice of architectural designing in Lombardy. The majority of the models and architectural drawings produced for the construction of the Cathedral of Milan in the modern period has been lost or is now scattered in the collections of libraries and museums all over the world. Only a small proportion has been preserved, around four hundred drawings and four wooden models.
