Abstract - We rectify the name Petrochirus fabroensis Pasini,

Gar-assino & De ngeli, 2014, from the Pliocene of Massearno (Piedmont, NW Italy), erroneously reported for P. sanctilazzari Pasini, Garassino & De ngeli, 2014, from the early Pleistocene of Fabro Scalo (Umbria, central Italy).

Key words: Decapoda, Diogenidae, Pliocene, Piedmont, Italy.

Pasini & Garassino (2015) reported one nearly

com-plete right chela three-dimensionally preserved from the

Pliocene of Masserano (Piedmont, NW Italy) (Fig. 1). The

characters of the chela fitted those of Petrochirus

sanc-tilazzari Pasini, Garassino & De ngeli, 2014, recently

re-ported from the early Pleistocene of Fabro Scalo (Umbria,

central Italy) by Pasini, Garassino & De Angeli in

Bald-anza et al. (2014). Pasini & Garassino (2015) assigned

the specimen from the Pliocene of Masserano to

Petrochi-rus sanctilazzari, but erroneously quoted it as fabroensis,

trivial name later replaced with sanctilazzari. The report

of P. sanctilazzari from the Pliocene of Piedmont is the

first record of ths species from the paleo-dritic gulf,

en-larging the distribution and the stratigraphic range of the

species in the Mediterranean area during the Cenozoic.
