FOREWORD

This was the XII Italian National Workshop of Planetary Sciences.

It was held in Bormio (Sondrio, Italy), located in the Italian Alps. The first of these Workshops was held in Bormio in 1996, with the aim of bringing together planetary scientists from different Italian observatories, research Institutions and Universities; traditionally it has been devoted to exchanges within the community about the latest results and the possible programmatic development lines for this field of research.

The 2015 edition was very successful, as evidenced by the wide range of talks and subjects pre- sented and discussed, from the latest results from space missions to ground based observations, modelling and theoretical studies.

A Nationial Workshop is particularly important in Planetary Sciences, which is by definition an interdisciplinary field of research, including expertise from many different disciplines, such as geology, astronomy, celestial mechanics, laboratory search for analogue materials, space science and theoretical modelling.

This is particularly important now, when the Italian community has grown, reflecting the ever increasing interest both in Planetary Sciences and in Planetary exploration, and many new topics are appearing in this field and young scientists are attracted to it.

The five days of the Workshop were fruitful, and lively discussions spanned from recent results from Rosetta to the formation and properties of planetary systems, passing through the physical and dynamical characterization of Solar System bodies, laboratory investigations and astrobiology.

The organizers would like to thank all the participants for attending this conference and making it so successful. A special word of thanks to Giovanni De Sanctis and Silvia Zampieri for their invaluable assistance.

P. Cerroni , M. Di Martino and E. Dotto
