We protect a territory. Choosing PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil liva DOP Riviera Ligure means helping the first keepers of a territory: those who cultivate it.
Olive farming in Liguria is no easy task. The terrain is entirely occupied by dry-stone-
walled terraces, built without concrete. This widespread system has been erected
through time, its art and techniques were awarded by Unesco recognition in its
Intangible Heritage list. Terraces treasure olive trees, too, demanding manual labour
up and down the hills of a complex territory, delicate and loved. Your oil comes from
these places.
350 km: this is the extension of Liguria, caught in the embrace of sky and sea and treasuring an astounding biodiversity of olive cultivars. The Province of Imperia is the kingdom of Taggiasca. PDO Riviera Ligure extra virgin oil here features the
“Riviera dei Fiori” sub-area mention. Moving eastwards, Taggiasca comes together other olive varieties: Arnasca, Pignola, Colombaia, Carparina, Olivotto.
Welcome to the “Riviera del Ponente Savonese” sub-area. Lastly, from Genoa to the Tuscan border, including the Cinque Terre, you find Lavagnina, Razzola, Prempesa, Lantesca, Castelnovina and more. This is the Riviera di Levante sub- area. One name, three oils, three souls, as stated by production specifications:
from the West to the East, a crescendo of intensity.
The three sub-areas Riviera dei Fiori
90%> Taggiasca olives, light yellow with greenish hues, light fruity or medium- light olive scents – fresh, neat; smooth and delicate, pleasantly fluid, bitter and subtly peppery; apple notes, peppery finish.
Riviera del Ponente Savonese
50%> Taggiasca olives, light yellow with greenish hues; light fruity or fresh medium-light olive scents; smooth and delicate, balanced bitter and peppery notes, pleasantly fluid; almond, apple notes, light peppery finish.
Riviera di Levante
65%> Lavagnina, Razzola, Pignola and other indigenous cultivars; gold yellow with greenish hues, light or medium fruity scents, fresh artichoke vegetal hints;
velvety and balances, lasting peppery hint; almond and meadow flowers finish.
