Minister of State and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has spoken at 2nd Aspen Bosphorus Dialogue’s “Double Transition: Economics and Politics Across Europe and the Mediterranean” conference, held at Four Seasons Hotel by ASPEN Institute Italia. He stated that İstanbul is a symbol by itself.

“Istanbul is the symbol of Turkey’s European character and a sign of our

identity. When you walk around in this area, you’ll see mosques, churches

and synagogues nearby each other. At the same time, you can find Muslim,

Christian and Jewish families living in side by side appartments. I think it’s

matching EU’s purpose. Because, EU isn’t an economic project, even not a

political project. Actually, EU is one of the greatest peace project in the

history of humanity. If it can assure sustainable peace in the continent and

avoid to be more wars it is an extremely succesful project.” he said.
