Abstract
The aim of the present work is to validate a non commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code and investigate the aerodynamic characteristics around a corrugated dragonfly airfoil during gliding flight at different Low Reynolds numbers.
The research was performed at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Michigan, USA, under the supervision of Professor Shyy Wei.
The numerical simulations have been carried out with two different models: a laminar and a turbulence k-ω model and conducted for three different Reynolds numbers: 55,000; 10,000 and 100.
For all simulations the numerical results have been compared with the experimental data taken from the literature.
