Research interests

The main research interests are related to the use of marine organisms as bioindicators of chemical pollution and environmental disturbance, development of weighted criteria to elaborate heterogeneous data, application of integrated, ecological risk assessment models.

These studies are related to management and monitoring of coastal areas, potential transfer of pollutants and risk to human health, sustainable aquaculture and animal welfare, dredging and disposal activities, impact assessment of off-shore gas and oil production, environmental management of highly polluted areas, remediation of industrial areas, biological effects of global changes in temperate and polar latitudes, molecular mechanisms of adaptation to extreme environmental conditions.

Weighted criteria for chemical and ecotoxicological data have been included in the recent Italian Law on classification and management of harbor dredged sediments (DM 173, 2016).
