Our PA will be present at the Italian Christmas Bazaar to promote our school through good sustainability practices. Come and join us! Inside the bazaar, in addition to the traditional Christmas market, there will be amazing masterclasses for adults and children!

As per tradition this will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Christmas together at school!

Nasal Flu Vaccination - Reminder
Just a quick reminder that this year’s nasal flu vaccine to all eligible children who have returned the consent form will take place next week on Monday 15.11.20.

To celebrate the week of Italian cuisine in the world, on Wednesday 24th November, we will be hosting the presentation of the book "Storia della Cucina Italiana a Fumetti".
The event has been organized by the Italian Consulate and it is free of charge.

OUR EYFS
Questa settimana abbiamo sperimentato tramite l’attività dell’assaggio! L’insegnante ci ha proposto di provare frutti e verdure di diverso genere incoraggiandoci a sentirne il sapore. Abbiamo così scoperto che tanti alimenti che pensavamo non ci piacessero, in realtà sono buoni!!
Abbiamo lavorato sulle parole ASPRO, DOLCE, AMARO e ci siamo divertiti a manipolare e scoprire la consistenza, il sapore e l’aspetto di questi cibi!
This week the children have been exploring what it is to be their unique selves and who they are with their class. They have created self portraits to add to the class jigsaw puzzle to show that their
individuality contributes to greatness.
OUR EYFS
This week was Maths Week England and we have enjoyed doing a variety of fun mathematical exercises!
Reception has started working on addition and its symbol, but all of early years worked on using mathematical language to describe the size and length of objects; the focus was to reinforce the appropriate use of the vocabulary we used as we talk about these objects.

OUR KS1 An amazing Mosaic Workshop
On the 10th November, the children in KS1 were lucky to be able to participate in a Mosaic workshop run by Ms F. Busca - former SIAL parent, mosaic teacher and environmentalist artist.

Year 1 – ICT
We are beginning to learn about paint and how it can be used to create some wonderful pieces of artwork.
As the weather is getting colder we created our first pieces of digital art, creating a winter forest at night.

Year 2 – ICT
In the last two weeks we have been using paint to create our own poppy artwork for Remembrance Day. Using different techniques, we were able to create some incredible pieces of art.
Year 2 – English
Continuing with our Roman topic, this week the children learned about the Romans arriving in Britain.
Looking at life at the time, Y2 looked at the Iceni Tribe and their fierce leader Boudicca who led a
rebellion against the Romans. After hearing that the Emperor was very angry with Boudicca, the children created some wanted posters to try and find her and wrote a short newspaper article to explain what had happened.

KS2 trip to Mazzoleni Gallery
Giovedì i bambini di KS2 hanno visitato la mostra su Burri, Nunzi e Kounellis presso la Galleria Mazzoleni.
Il signor Jose Graci ha spiegato la differenza tra mostre antologiche, retrospettive, collettive e personali. Questa era una mostra collettiva, perché ospitava tre differenti artisti.
Ha, inoltre, elencato i materiali utilizzati per realizzare le opere: sacchi del periodo della seconda guerra mondiale, vecchi cappotti, pezzi di legno tagliati con una sega elettrica, bruciati con una fiamma ossidrica e illumitati da pigmenti blu oltremare. I bambini sono rimasti affascinati!
“Mi è piaciuta molto la galleria, soprattutto le sculture di Nunzi, in particolar modo quelle della seconda stanza, dove ha utilizzato il blu per far apparire la luce.
Mi sono piaciuti i vari dettagli sul legno e come lo bruciava per spacciarlo per carbone. Mi è anche piaciuto come i vari artisti usavano vari tipi di tessuto e la stanza indovinello!” Enrico.
“Ho trovato la mostra molto interessante. Le opere più affascinanti erano quelle di legno, bruciate con un pochino di blu” Ethan
“Ho trovato la mostra molto interessante. Le opere mi hanno fatto sentire rilassato e tranquillo. Il mio artista preferito è Nunzi, per come usa il blu puro, per far sembrare il legno illuminato” Francesco.
E per addolcire ancora di più la giornata...una gustosissima crostata preparata dalla mamma di Emma e Filippo!

Year 3 and Year 4 – Italiano
Ripassare la grammatica o ampliare il proprio vocabolario giocando? Sì, si può!
In Year 3 i bambini hanno lavorato sull'arricchimento lessicale:
quante sfumature di significato può avere una parola? Tante, in base al contesto.
La parola “treno”assume accezioni differenti se si scrive: “Luca è partito come un treno” oppure “Il treno partirà dal binario 3”
oppure “Ho dovuto svolgere un treno di addizioni”.
Lo stesso per la parola “porto”: navi in porto, andare in porto, porto le fragole per il picnic...
I bambini, sulle loro lavagnette, ogni volta che la maestra leggeva una frase, hanno scritto il significato che ritenevano corretto.
In Year 4, per rispolverare l’analisi grammaticale, sono tornati gli amati pop it!
Schede autocorrettive: premi il pallino corrispondente alla risposta che ritieni corretta e poi verifica.
Finita la prima, i bambini si sono scambiati le schede...ripasso divertente ed efficace!

Year 5 and Year 6 – English
Year 5 & 6 compiled a beautiful anthology of poetry inspired by the poem Symphony in Yellow by Oscar Wild. Each of them picked their favourite colour to write a poem about and they used a wide range of poetic devices to describe the colour uniquely.

Year 5 and Year 6 – Italiano/Geografia
Seguendo l’attività svolta la settimana scorsa in Scienze/Ict, i bambini di Y5 e Y6 hanno preso parte ad un role play, immaginando di partecipare al COP26 di Glasgow come rappresentanti di diversi Paesi.
Si è discusso delle conseguenze del cambiamento climatico sull’ambiente e sugli esseri viventi e sui possibili rimedi che potrebbero e dovrebbero essere messi in atto dai Governi e, in piccolo, dai singoli individui.
Come prodotto finale, in gruppo, hanno scritto una lettera ai World Leaders per far sentire le loro voci.
“Cari leaders, vi scriviamo per esortarvi ad agire per limitare i danni del cambiamento climatico. Noi bambini della Sial, proponiamo di usare energie rinnovabili per garantire un mondo migliore per le nuove generazioni e per gli animali…”
“Noi e voi possiamo rendere il mondo migliore, riducendo la plastica, il petrolio, i carburanti fossili e chiudendo le fabbriche inutilizzate. Ognuno di noi può contribuire con piccole cose…”
“...fra qualche anno il mare sarà pieno di plastica. Noi siamo preoccupati, perché questo avrà un grosso impatto sugli esseri viventi e sulle future generazioni…”

Year 5 and Year 6 – An extra P.E. class with new friends
On Thursday afternoon our Year 5 and Year 6 joined their peers of Norland Place School for a fun P.E.
lesson in Avondale Park, enjoying football and netball games.
It was incredible fun and we are thrilled to have formed some new friendships, with whom we can share our learning journey!
We cannot wait for next week, when we will join them again to play a football match against another primary school!
On Thursday 18th please remember to bring your P.E. kit!
Our School Assembly
Remembrance day
This week Year 5 and Year 6 gave an assembly to the school about Remembrance day on Thursday 11th November teaching us all about the meaning of poppies and understanding how we thank and remember those who have suffered in times of war across all the ages, cultures and nations of the world.
The focus of our Gold Award this week has been
Eco Warrior - Making an effort around school to look after the earth.
