Q: Which is the role of the municipality of Lecce on the environmental problematic and the contribution in the INTERREG II Project?

A: The municipality of Lecce in the within of its administrative management has paied attention to the environmental problems with the aim to obtain the sustainable development of the territory. This attention has been manifested in numerous participations that were realized with the creation of the Park of Rauccio recognized with regional law and also with the active participation in the city such as an example:

insertion of instruments for the constant monitoring of the quality of the air and of the thresholds of noise; closing to the traffic of vehicle of many areas of the same city;

characterization and beginning of reclamation of the old Saspi rubbish dump;

reconstruction with asphalt no noise of many areas; activation of the so-called metropolitan of surface eco-compatible; shortly introduction of electrical vehicles workers for the public transit in the historical center; creation of cycle lane.

The municipality of Lecce essentially is proud to have been the town council that it has had extremely turns out in receiving financings to POR in the environmental subject.

Within such politics the municipality has always watched with interest to the possible synergies with all the other local institutions with particular reference to the University.

An effective collaboration with the University was realized in order to develop and to

realize participations of environmental recovery and of conservation of the species. This

activity has been realized such demanding the participation of the University in some

areas of the Park of Rauccio and the pond of Acquatina as participating which associate

for the creation of the botanic garden of Lecce. The municipality has been engaged

beyond to the normal activity of associate to activate urban planning in order to make

the botanic garden more functional and active in the development of the city and in a

generalized manner of the Salento.
