Title “A link between texture and porosity on carbonates: the influence of dolomitization process for the carbonate reservoirs”

Name of the supervisor: Cirilli Simonetta Name of a co-supervisor: Azzurra Zucchini

Fieldwork: Facies analysis, distribution, vertical and lateral variations of dolomitic horizons.

laboratory activity: Laboratory analyses will be performed on representative samples. These will be analysed by several approaches such as petrography, mineralogy and geochemistry, and by

synchrotron X-ray.

Prerequisites: It is preferred (but not mandatory) have been attended the course on Sedimentary Petrography.

Brief description of the planned research

The study consists in investigating the 3D textural characteristics of dolomitic reservoir rocks and their porosity, taking into account the physical properties of the voids (dimensions and spatial distribution) and the interconnection between them. The dolomite textures and porosity will be compared in to parent limestone formations, lacking of dolomitization products and textural relicts.

Outcrop and subsurface samples will be studied.
