LENTEN PREPARATION MASSES

Every Tuesday of Lent at

7:00 pm March 30

Lent is the liturgical season that precedes and prepares for Easter. It is a season of prayer,

fasting and almsgiving.

We hope to see you all in every Mass.

“Even though I should have to die with you I will not deny you.

And they all spoke similarly. Then they came to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’ He took with him Peter, James and John, and began to be troubled and distressed. Then he said to them, ‘My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch.’ He advanced a little and fell to the ground and prayed.” Following the last supper, we join the three disciples and Jesus in the garden. We hear His prayer as the apostles fall asleep. The hurt of the betrayal, soon to be followed by the denial filled the heart of Jesus. We are present to support and console Him. Yet all which takes place is to comfort, console and save us. We move from sorrow to gratitude for what the Lord did and does for us today. The Christ who suffered for us, suffers in His people today. May we find comfort, but also act to ease the hurts of others near and far. Jesus, save us.

Corpo e del Sangue è stato istituito, ed è stato detto: “Io

sono il pane della vita... Tutto ciò che il Padre mi dà verrà a me: colui che viene a me non lo

respingerò... E questa è la volontà di colui che mi ha mandato, che io non perda nulla di quanto mi ha dato, ma

lo risusciti l’ultimo giorno”

(Gv 6,35-39). Come la morte è

arrivata dall’uomo così anche la risurrezione è arrivata dall’

uomo, il mondo è stato salvato per mezzo di lui. Questa è la luce della Cena. Al contrario, la tenebra viene da Giuda.

Nessuno è penetrato nel suo

segreto. Si è visto in lui un mercante di quartiere che aveva

un piccolo negozio, e che non ha sopportato il peso della sua vocazione. Egli incarnerebbe il

dramma della piccolezza umana. O, ancora, quello di un

giocatore freddo e scaltro dalle

grandi ambizioni politiche.

Lanza del Vasto ha fatto di lui

l’incarnazione demoniaca e disumanizzata del male. Tuttavia

nessuna di queste figure collima con quella del Giuda del Vange- lo. Era un brav’uomo, come molti altri. È stato chiamato come gli altri. Non ha capito che cosa gli si faceva fare, ma gli

altri lo capivano? Egli era annunciato dai profeti, e quello

che doveva accadere è accaduto.

“’Aunque tenga que morir contigo, jamás te negaré’.

Y todos los discípulos dijeron lo mismo. Cuando Jesús llegó con sus discípulos a una propiedad llamada Getsemaní, les dijo: ‘Quédense aquí, mientras yo voy allí a orar’. Y llevando con él a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo, comenzó a entristecerse y a angustiarse. Entonces les dijo: ‘Mi alma siente una tristeza de

muerte. Quédense aquí, velando conmigo’. Y adelantándose un poco, cayó con el rostro en tierra, orando.” Después de la última cena, nos unimos a los tres discípulos de Jesús en el jardín. Escuchamos Su

oración mientras los apóstoles se duermen. El dolor de la traición, seguido pronto por la negación llenan el corazón de Jesús. Estamos presentes para apoyar y consolarlo. Sin embargo, todo lo que sucede es para

consolar y salvarnos a nosotros. Pasamos de tristeza a gratitud por lo que el Señor hizo y hace por nosotros hoy. El Cristo que sufrió por nosotros, lo sufre en Su pueblo hoy. Ojalá encontremos consuelo,

pero ojalá también que actuemos para aliviar el sufrimiento de gente cerca y lejos. Jesús, sálvanos.
