Chapter 2: Aim
One of the first roles described for MP was the initiation and amplification of the coagulation cascade and, under pathological conditions, in thrombosis. Several recent studies have emphasized the possibility that MP are involved in haemostatic and vascular diseases.
The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of generation of procoagulant MP and their role in three different conditions associated to high risk of thrombotic events: smoke, hypertension and the “Instant blood-mediated inflammatory reaction” (IBMIR) linked to the pancreatic transplantation.
