ABSTRACT
The aim of this work was to explore the use of Active FSS in electromagnetic applications. To study these devices, we have used a full wave commercial code modelling the active elements through Lumped-RLC elements.
Fist of all, in order to validate the procedure, we have designed an active band-bass filter in which the resonant frequency can be electronically sweeped. Next, we focused our attention toward the creation of an artificial magnetic surface that can change the resonance frequency within the S-band.
Finally, we projected and realized a composite structure, comprising a bow- tie antenna on a proper artificial magnetic conductor. This new tunable antenna is able to electronically scan the S-band and has a steerable main beam in the plane phi=90°.
