Memo 101 Modena, 18 January 2020 To the Parents of students at the Primary school of Comprehensive School 1 in Modena On the Website Official Documents
Dear Parents,
from the current academic year, in accordance with the new regulatory provisions, the intermediate and final assessment of learning of primary school pupils will no longer be expressed by a numerical vote, but by a descriptive judgement. Conversion law n°.
41/2020, at paragraph 2-bis states that «By way of derogation from Article 2, paragraph 1, of Legislative Decree n°.62 dated 13/042017, from the academic year
2020/2021, the intermediate and final assessment of learning of primary school pupils, for each subject provided for by the National Guidelines for the curriculum is expressed through a descriptive judgement shown in the assessment document, and referred to different levels of learning, according to terms and methods defined by order of the Education Minister».
Subsequently, in December 2020, the schools implemented Ministerial Decree 172 of 04/12/2020 (and related Guidelines), which provides operational guidelines on the application of the law and introduces the levels to be used nationwide.
Therefore, already at the end of the first quarter, the assessment of primary school students foresees the disappearance of the vote and the introduction of descriptive judgements developed according to the following four learning levels:
· ADVANCED
· INTERMEDIATE
· BASIC
· ON THE WAY TO ACQUIRING FIRST NOTIONS
The decision of the ministry aims at the assumption of a formative perspective of the assessment in order to enhance the learning paths and the self-assessment of the student with a view to improving learning and academic success.
The teaching staff is at work to identify the strategic learning goals for each subject and to draw up descriptive judgements developed according to the four learning levels. The latter do not correspond to votes but to the methods for acquiring the individual goals.
For students with a certified disability the assessment “is related to the goals identified in the Personalized Educational Plan drawn up according to legislative decree 66/2017”
always taking into account the four levels.
For students with specific learning disorders, the Personalized Learning Plan arranged by the Parent Teacher Association according to Law 170/2010 is taken into account.
Civic Education courses also foresee an assessment according to the levels mentioned above. The assessment of Catholic Religion classes, of the Alternative subject, of Behaviour and the overall judgement according to Legislative Decree 62/17 shall remain unchanged.
Having completed the work by the 1st quarter, the Ptof (Three Year Educational Programme) for our Institute will be updated accordingly and available for consultation on the website and on paper directly at the school.
The undersigned will schedule an informative meeting to provide further insights.
Best regards
