ABSTRACT
The purpose of the thesis is the study of the freatic acquifer of the low Pisa plain through litostratigraphic, hydrodynamic and hydrogeochemical investigation, with reference to the relationships of feeding and drain among the freatic layer and the main water courses (Arno e Serchio) as well as the minor ones (Morto Nuovo and Morto Vecchio).
Besides, the study investigates on the problems related to the salt intrusion coming from water courses and throug interface between fresh and salt water, and in general on the quality of the water resource of the freatic layer, on that of the rivers Arno and Serchio in their terminal line, and of the main artificial canals.
The study has an interdisciplinary approach, involving hydrology, hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry.
The results will constitute an indispensable tool to the improvement of a network for the qualitative and quantitative control of the water resource. Such a network will be a useful tool also for the prevention of possible environmental damages caused by phenomenons of pollution.
