Da questo studio è emerso che i modelli di Segev, soprattutto i modelli B e C, hanno un’elevata capacità di predire l’outcome di pazienti canini con insufficienza renale acuta sottoposti ad emodialisi, associata ad un’elevata percentuale di corrette classificazioni.

Questi modelli non devono però sostituire un’appropriata valutazione clinica del paziente, né essere considerati come unico strumento prognostico.

È importante però sottolineare che, l’applicazione di questi modelli e la valutazione dei principali parametri capaci di influenzare l’outcome di questi pazienti, come la concentrazione di creatinina e fosforo, la produzione urinaria e la presenza di alterazioni respiratorie, possono aiutare molto il clinico nella scelta, non sempre facile, di intraprendere o meno la terapia emodialitica e di emettere una prognosi più precisa possibile
