Riflessione su aspetti fonetic

Alcune particolarità, dal punto di vista fonetico, meritano una riflessione a parte. In cinese, esistono parole ed espressioni che associano al significato anche il suono, un elemento fondamentale di questa lingua. Ci sono, perciò, delle espressioni che possono essere considerate come le onomatopee in italiano ma, che in cinese, hanno anche un significato, che viene associato al suono. Ad esempio, nel corso della traduzione, ho incontrato questi casi:

• nella frase “噗地一声破裂” (p. 69), il termine pu 噗 rappresenta il suono di un soffio,

novella, ho tradotto con il temine onomatopeico “sciaff” (p. 32), che mi sembrava il più appropriato.

• nel caso della serie di onomatopee “咪 咪 ， 咪 咪 ， 咪 咪 ， 味 咪……” (p. 79), ho

deciso di tradurre con l’espressione comune italiana che si usa per richiamare un gatto: “…miciomiciomiciomicio…” (p. 37). È interessante notare che, in cinese, il carattere

mi 咪, rappresenta anche il suono del miagolio del gatto.

3.5 Conclusione

Per concludere, vorrei sottolineare le difficoltà inerenti alla traduzione letteraria dal cinese ai fini di rendere un testo apprezzabile da parte di chi non conosca la lingua e la civiltà cinese, allo stesso modo di chi è, invece, nato e cresciuto nell’ambito di quella cultura. Ogni tentativo può essere migliorato, ma, come le “convergenze parallele”, è destinato a non essere esattamente sovrapponibile all’originale, come afferma James Howell in un suo distico sagace e brillante:

Some hold translation not unlike to be The wrong side of a Turkish tapestry.14
