INTRODUTION OF GEOLOGY OF THE PROJECT VILLAGE ‘QU’
The project village is located on the Loess Plateau which has dry climate,
and sometimes blustery and very cold in the winter. The Loess Plateau is very big and full of loess and sand, which makes it yellow The Yellow River passing through the Loess Plateau, taking lots of sand to the sea
EARTH KILN FACE
The 'yao dong' is only made by earth and have no protective wall. Most of them were made many years ago.It may leak during heavy rain, and also have risk of collapse. So it is not suggested to be used now.
KILN FACE WITH SLIPPERY PLASTER
The kiln face is made of brick, some of them only use it as the decoration part, and the other also use them as the extro stuctural support to stop the water erosion and risk of collapse. And now it is a common way to build.
FULL BRICK KILN FACE
Full brick protective wall interior and exterior. And the structure is more safe but cost more.

There are three different types of Yao Dong distributed in the loess plateau, and the type of the building is based on different ter-rain. And the distribution of the types of ‘yao dong’ is mixed, which means you can see three different types in the same region. The disrebution of the type is depands on the local terrian and tradition.

We hope the elderly people would not stay along at their home, but instead of having a common place to communicate, do some activities, even taking part in the tourist service to make a contribution, and in return, making themselves happy.
We want to creat a meditation and pray space for the elderly
people who has buddhism belief. As one of the most popular table game in China, Mahjong must be suggested as an activity for the elderly people to have their free time in the reused 'Yao Dong'.
The art of paper-cutting in China is one of the oldest folk arts in China. paper-cutting are often used to decorate doors and windows and usually are made of red paper, as red is associated with festivities and happiness in Chinese culture.
Shadow play, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim.
Hammer grass printing is an ancient printing and dyeing technology. The juice of the plant is printed on the cloth by a hammer.
Chinese opera is a popular form of drama and musical theatre in China . It is a composite performance art that is an amalgamation of various art forms , such as music, song and dance, martial arts, acrobatics etc.
