SUBJECT: To test the feasibility of service platform | to find the pain point

PROPS: Each person come with 5 to 10 books | A small label with owner’s name should be put inside each book | Registration form | Message form | Function card

PROCESS:

1) To introduce the service system and service process; 2) To simulate registration (hand filling registry);

3) To simulate to upload books (hand fill in the label in each books) and put all the books on the table; 4) To borrow books: all the user can search books on the platform (table) and check book information (the book cover and the label of owner). User can leave a message (hand fill a message form and pass it to owner). The borrower and owner can communicate online (on the paper form without speaking) to decide meeting time and place. These two users hand over the book face to face. Only the borrower confirms online (sign his or her name on the label), the borrower will become the new owner.

5) To simulate different situations: there are many situation cards such as lossing a book, no answer, refusing to borrow etc. We put these cards on table and recorded users’ reflect to test the influence of different situation.

6) Disscussion and Suggestion.

test & feedback

Next, we put the photo of app prototype in a phone and invited some parents to test. These are part of their feedback:

1) My child is too young to answer the personal questions when registering.

2) How to encourage users to storing books should be considered

1) I don’t want to fill the personal questions of registration for understanding the complex text. It’s better to shown the questions as pictures.

2) When I confirm borrowing a book, how the system affirm the last owner of this book?

3) I would like to set friend group or friend tags.

4) Some popular books are from the same owner. How to reward the popular user should be considered.

1) I would like to comment and recommend books to my friends. But I think most male users wouldn’t like to borrow books. How to encourage users to borrow books should be considered.

2) My son will treat books as toys. How can I do if he destoryed a borrowed book? MOTHER OF BATIAN (a 7-mouth girl) MOTHER OF PUMPKIN (a 3-year girl) FATHER OF BOB (a 5-year boy)

MODIFICATION OF REGISTRATION:

Personalized questions are changed from text options to visualized images. That could not only attra-tive more children to participate to answer but also reduce the loss of users during registering.

PROMOTION OF THE LOCALIZED SERVICE:

This book sharing service platform has been recognized by many parents and public organization staff. Parents need it to obtain reading resources and dispose idle books. Public organizations also need it to promote localized communication among families in a community. This service fulfills the requirement-sof both borrowing and disposing. We hope it chould be realized and promoted in communities in China.

MULTIFUNCTION OF READING SERVICE

We have only book borrowing, book disposing and reading society service now. We hope it could be a multifunction service about children’s reading in the future such as radio reading, interactive reading, reading gamification and so on. On one hand, the multiply service will attract users in multiply ways. On the other hand, the system could collect more and deeper user’s data to provide service accurately.

FROM ONLINE TO OFF-LINE

We have only online platform service now. We hope we will have also off-line reading service for children.
