MANDELA

1. He was born in South Africa in 1918 2. In 1944, he joined the

African National Congregation (ANC), a protest movement that

wanted black and white people have the same right.

3. He organised protests and for

this he was arrested and he was sent to prison on Robben Island.

4. In the 1960s, other

countries began to oppose the Apartheid System in

South Africa.

They organised demonstrations, they refused to buy South Africa products and sports team refused to play there.

5. In 1990

Mandela was released from

prison.

6. In the 1994 elections,

black South Africans could vote for the first time and they chose Mandela. He was

the first black President.

7. Nelson

Mandela died in 2013 (aged 95).
