Add this session to your Personal programme Quantitative Approaches to Complex Soil Systems:

From Exploration Concepts to Metrics, Models and Data Management

Soil systems are a vital natural resource and are characteristically complex. They vary at multiple scales in space and time as a result of the combined effects of many different factors which arise from the interaction of biologic, geological, hydrological and anthropogenic processes. There is an urgent need for quantitative methods to elucidate, model, predict and then communicate information about soil systems.

This session combines examples from different aspects within the field of quantitative soil system sciences: • From innovations in soil sampling design to multi-scale system monitoring.

• Management, visualisation, sharing and interpretation of spatio-temporal data. • Model approaches to soil system functioning and co-evolution.

• Conceptual failures and obstacles to transdisciplinary exploration.

• Models and tools on soil data addressing (automatic) procedures and analysis embedded in web applications (such as WebGIS) • Metrics, models and data management with the special emphasis of supporting the decision making.

We seek to bring together complementary lines of investigation into soil systems so as to advance the development of robust and efficient methodologies. This session is organized in cooperation with the International Soil Modeling Consortium (ISMC) (https://soil-modeling.org/)
