Abstract

People choose to live in urban areas to be benefited from the wide range of advantages which are offered in urban areas. But it is obvious that there are some benefits also in rural areas and rural life style of which people should give up by deciding to live in cities. Farming and agriculture could be considered as the most banal privileges relinquished. The 2014 revision of the World Urbanization Prospects by UN DESA’s Population Division notes that 54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 66 per cent by 2050. Obviously, elimination of this percentage of people from the organic food production could be a problem for future society. Due to avoid such kind of problem, it is important to provide bases for agriculture also in cities to educate people in base of agriculture and encourage them to participate in the organic food production. Nowadays, thanks to the technology and science, farming and agriculture are not only the

characteristics of rural areas. Architects, as specialist who tempts to solve the needs in the form of building, have token also in consideration the new need of urban population, farming and agriculture, to realize it by physical form.

Since the accessibility to the organic productions is difficult for urban population and there is a lack of knowledge of agriculture and farming among urban population, bringing the agriculture into the city could be an appropriate solution to ease the accessibility and giving the possibility to the people to enhance their knowledge through a learn by doing process. Therefore, on the one hand people could participate in their own food production process and on the other hand the city could be benefited from the participation of those vegetation and plants in reduction of the rate of CO2 that consequently leads to the reduction of air pollution.

By having a glance at the map of urban areas, it can be seen that there are some in-between land that could be potential sites to be used for urban farming; getting such advantage from these lands and educating the young generation could have an impressive influence on the food health and sustainable future.

Proposals to gain to such desired future could be an educational building devoted to agriculture, lands on which local people could participate in planting and farming and open kitchen that gives the people the opportunity to use the products as 0Km. There could be bars and restaurants, too, that are in line with the main theme and the original concept, so will also participate in producing the organic products for their consume.
