Exercise 2 A world champion daily routine - Hi! I’m Steve, I’m 24, I’m the speed skating world champion. You want to know about a day in my life? Well, the speed skating training is similar to many aerobic sports, such as hockey, basketball or snowboarding. A speed skater needs to be fast but also powerful. In the morning, after a sub- stantial breakfast (a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit and walnuts, plus a cup of coffee), I start training at 8 with some warm-up exercises (stretching, for example), and then I do high intensity aerobic exercise. From 10.30 to lunch time I review training video with my coach and we analyze them together.
After a light lunch I have some free time and in the afternoon I have strength training such as weight lifting and skate training. Before every competition I do yoga to relax and focus my mind on the performance. Concentra- tion is the most important thing for a successful performance!
