ABSTRACT How can design be used to confront the challenges affecting The Internal Areas (Aree Interne) of Italy? This was the initial question asked after visiting the ‘Altipiani’ of Abruzzo. Photographic, cartographic, historical and cultural resources were used in our analysis to gain a more complete understanding of the Landscape. From this analysis we proposed to create a cultural route through the Valley ‘Piano Di Quarto Grande’. This route is composed of various interventions which make use of abandoned & disused spaces, historic sites and spaces with geo-logical importance which were identified in our analysis.
