FOREWORD
The 51th Meeting of the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIt) was held in Florence from 17 to 20 April 2007. About 150 delegates attended the meeting to cover a broad range of scientific topics: the Sun and the solar system, stars and compact objects, interstellar medium and star for- mation, galaxies, cosmology and astroparticles, telescopes and instrumentations. The scientific program included about 60 oral and 20 poster presentations. Two sessions of the conference were devoted to a discussion about the future of the italian astronomy and to the vist of the ”Villa il Gioiello”, where Galileo Galiei spent his last days. A conference on ”The dark Abyss of time”
was given by Prof. Paolo Rossi.
We are gratefull to all the members of the scientific and the local organizing commettees, who contributed to the success of the meeting, and to the sponsoring institutions.
