Although composing an e-mail message is still based on the basic rules of writing a business letter, it has its own rules, known as ‘netiquette’
meant as ‘the etiquette of the
Net’.

1) it is more informal;
2) don’t capitalise everything, otherwise you sound impolite;
3) write concise messages and avoid
unimportant details: go straight to the point;
4) use informal salutations and complimentary closes.
Prefer ‘Dear David’, and ‘Regards’ or ‘Best wishes’.
