The Pride’s

ROAR!

COVID-19

This pandemic has changed the way many organizations now conduct business and the Lions Clubs of America is no exception. While many in person meetings and events have been canceled, the Pride Lions Club has continued to roar on in many small ways. ROAR!!! Enjoy the following pages and stay in the know with what we are doing far and wide. Our meetings are now conducted via Zoom, an easy way to stay connected. Take the time and log on for an hour and connect with your fellow Lions Club members, we would love to see you. While we have not had a lot of participation, we have managed to get things done and continue the legacy of this club. Stay Safe and Roar on.

Happy New Year

So what will the new year bring for you? What will it bring for all of us?? I think every number can tell a story. Numerology considers this year as a number 5 year. It stands for a year of personal transition. It is a time of change - change in attitude, change of work, res- idence, and a change of direction. This year means it’s time for you to take some risks. Use this year to make big changes in your life. More than any other year, this is the time to move, change jobs or careers, or even try unconventional things you haven’t tried before. It’s a time to be curious and investigate new things that interest you. Waiting means you might have to wait another nine years before you will have a full year to devote to this energy. - Kay Lagerquist, PH.D and Lisa Lenard

2021 has got to be better and so could we. Remember:

The Pride’s ROAR!

How We Are Staying Busy

In November we did our first ever virtual race fundraiser for diabetes awareness month. It was a success, we raised over $2100. The event was a month-long affair focused on getting people moving and clubs competing. All proceeds went to the MD4 Diabetes Innovation Fund with the City of Hope.

The event pitted teams of 5 against each other racing from the north- ern border of California to the City of Hope campus. Participants could walk, run, ride, roll, or swim to add miles to their contribution to their team’s totals. Racers entered their mileage for each day into the race site and we watched progress for a month as teams jockeyed for position.

Here’s the twist, all proceeds were donated in the name of the Lions

club who participated in the event. We had several clubs that entered

more than one team. We broke down the prize structure so every

team could make an impact. Each team of 5 had $50 donated in their

So their accomplishments increased the funds donated in the name of that club.

The Visalia Pride Lions Club and the Lions District 4-A2 extends a special thank you to the Tulare-Kings Service Center Council (TKSCC) for supporting our efforts to find a cure for Diabetes. TKSCC provided the club with a $500 donation as a sponsorship for the Diabetes walk.

The Service Center is a branch of the California Teacher’s Association, providing support for teachers in Tulare and Kings counties.

The California Teachers Association exists to:

*Protect and Promote the well-being of its members

*Improve the conditions of teaching and learning

*Advance the cause of free universal, and quality public education

*Ensure that the human dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected

*Secure a more just, equitable, and democratic society

The Pride’s ROAR!

We have a challenge out there that is easy for us to tackle. The District Governor has challenged each club to get all their members up on the MyLion app. In addition, he is offering a 2 night stay in Santa Maria for the first club who can get each member to upload their picture to the MyLion app as well. Of our 24 members, 16 are up on the MyLion app. So we have 8 folks to get up on the app and we have 10 that we need to get to post a picture for their profile (this includes the 8 folks we need to get up on the app).

On Going Projects

In December we did our annual Adopt a Family. The VEAC only had two families for our club. Several members did a wonderful job of making Christmas special for these fami- lies. Due to COVID restriction Instead of having members gather several items to make up a Christmas meal, we instead gave each family a $250 food gift card so they could make the Christmas meal they wanted. We also delivered the goods with safety in mind.

Thanks to Jon and Suzy, Keith and Donny, Leslie, Bobbie Jo and Yolanda, Diana and Cheri and Alicia Frates for all the hard work they did to gather the presents for the kids in each of the familes. A special thank you to Katia for getting together some very special baskets for the mom’s of each of the familes. Of course a big thank you to Cheri for her efforts in this project. We had a donation from the Barker family so we could achieve success in this project. Thanks everyone.

A Thought for the Moment

Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though some- times it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward..
